Riders

"I did it!"

Sarah may not bphotoe able to walk, but she can ride, thanks to the help of the volunteers, instructors and contributors of S.T.A.R.S. Therapeutic riding is ideal for individuals of all ages – from toddlers to senior citizens – experiencing physical, cognitive, emotional, behavioral, or social challenges. S.T.A.R.S. supports each rider with compassion and empowerment, not pity. Our goals don’t limit riders by the same expectations the experience elsewhere in the world.

We work with clients experiencing physical disability and injury; mental health issues; developmental disabilities; and chronic illness. Our clients faces challenges with cerebral palsy, spinal bifida, brain trauma, stroke, and paralysis; multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, and arthritis; PTSD, depression, anxiety, obsessive/compulsive disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit Disorders.

Animal-assisted therapy is ideal for all these situations, providing opportunity for emotional management and awareness, and improving social and relationship skills that help facilitate greater self-esteem, self-expression, confidence, and healthy integration into society.

S.T.A.R.S. is also an important community for families and caregivers, providing a unique form of support, respite, release, and understanding.
